Very interesting
If you've seen the 2024 London revival of Starlight Express, you'll recognise this song as "Whistle At Me" in Act 1.
Wonderful interview! Thanks and sleep a lifetime, dearest Stephen (ZT'l)
This upload is so appreciated as someone who was born in 1999 and would've never had a chance to see this live with this cast. Bless you for this!!! Ive watched it three times already 😂
I'm 60, grew up with Johnny and Ed, and this is the first time I ever heard him sing.
Oh my!!! Coming across this recording has just made my year!! ❤❤❤❤
i love them together
I was in a production of this show when I was in college, in 1988. I played Clement Musgrove. I don’t remember any of us having a problem with the act one finale, where he punches Rosamund in the face, sings a cute song, and then commences to rape her while she’s unconscious. It is extremely troubling to me now, and I can’t believe this was ever part of the play. I mean, he could just sing the song to her while she’s coming on him.
Not just the singer of the "Gimme a Break" theme song. This woman was amazing!
Thanks, friend!❤rip.
In Jesus Christ, the Creator God John 1:1-5 who was incarnated into human flesh John 1:14 as the Son of God and who gave His life and paid with His blood so that all who believe in Him will never die John 6:50 but will live forever as He was resurrected from the dead by the power of God. For in Him Jesus Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead Father, Son and Holy Spirit bodily Col. 2:9
OMgosh, do you realize that other than terrible B roll this is the only other BALLROOM footage out there!!!!!!!
WOW. What a treasure!
Gosh that was beautiful ❤❤❤
I must have watched several times. Len Cariou really is Sweeney Todd. You can feel the sadness he puts into the character.
Anyone 2024 may and went to the joseph show in blenheim marlborough nz and joseph was spencer kingi
Mr jester got that split personality
Nice dry humour .
I saw this orig. prod. of Sweeney some 27 times. People forget Sweeney was written for Len Cariou. Unfortunately here Mr. Len was not in his best voice. In late spring 1979 he had some throat trouble. The rest of the run he usually quite marvelous.
BeBe definitely is one of the best dancers among generations 😍
I cant believe somebody actually captured this absolute gold
johnny was kind of cranky there wasnt he hahaha
I went to see a local production several years ago and it's still on my top list of shows. The actors were able to sing in the audience at times and it was really fun! There was a sequence where The Beadle was strolling around singing his little nonsense songs and it always sticks in my mind lol 😊
Jonathan Scott-Taylor was a brilliant young actor who went on to play Damien in Omen 2. However, he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. I have tried to find out what became of him and what he is doing now, but there is no information on him at all. Even his Wiki page tells us very little. There is no date of birth for him and there are no names of his parents. Very mysterious indeed.
The first act of the original musical is absorbing, but that second act... Bernstein entrusted the play to Lerner and he had no idea how to resolve the thing.
Amazing, but so dangerous, heels, long tight dresses and steps. One slip and any of them could be out for weeks or worse. Hope they got hazard pay!
thank you bootlegger from 1983. you're a legend.
😂
First time coming across this I love Dalton’s, beautiful voice .
Thank you for posting this performance. How this “flopped” I’ll never understand. And how there aren’t revivals and multiple different studio and concert recordings of this work I will also never understand. This reminds me of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s life story: from Wunderkind to Box Office Poison, not through any real altering of audience tastes but through jealous acts and critic-engineered sabotage.
This was an incredible experience, I've only imagined this cast based on the album but seeing them here makes me realize their real genius, and the pit and crew. Amazing. What a production, what a piece of history.
Someone should give this the AI treatment if possible!

A great melody, a great singer. ❤❤❤
And people say Hans Zimmer is better…
odd question, why doesn't this one have judge turpin's version of johanna? it's in the cast recording, so i'm curious as to why it isn't in the show.
Because it was never in the original show, it was reinstated for the cast recording.
I was 11 when I saw this. I get the same chills now that I did when I sat in that seat in the balcony❤
Eddie Murphy... deserved an Oscar for his performance! Just seeing the Original makes me appreciate the remake. So many talented men and women! Beautiful!
My favorite cast of all time ❤
So Buetiful
ironic how Christianity's headquarters is now in Rome
(Edit: I may have misinterpreted your statement. I think you were commenting on the state of Christianity in terms of where it was when this video ended, and not Christianity as it exists today. If that was the case, ignore the following comment.) Roman Catholocism's headquarters is in Rome. Just as Judaism is a modification of the old covenant, Catholicism is a modification of Christianity. Christianity's headquarters is, according to the Bible, wherever a Christian is. Or you can consider it the place where two or more Christians congregate.
@@yougetagoldstarCatholicism originated alongside the first Christians?
@@STATiSBEATS Hi. My previous comment may have been confusing because I thought campar said that Christianity's headquarters is in Rome, today. So I replied that it's actually Roman Catholicism that is headquartered in Rome, today; I wasn't trying to say that Christianity was Roman Catholicism at the point at which the video ended or prior. But campar might have just been commenting on the state of Christianity as far as the time at which the video ended. But to answer your question anyway, I wouldn't say that it originated alongside the first Christians if by "first Christians" you mean the apostles and Jesus's disciples. Catholicism originated centuries after Jesus walked the earth, partly during the Roman Empire, but mostly afterward. It didn't originate all at once. Catholicism is basically a gradual deviation from Christianity. You had Christianity with the teachings of Jesus on one hand; but then on the other hand mankind began to make modifications to it until a new religion emerged that is merely based on Christianity. If the second part of this documentary goes far enough, they will most likely talk about the Protestant Reformation. This was a time when people began to notice all the modifications Catholics made God's word and began to protest against it. Here are a few things that Catholics modified: they invented a concept called "purgatory" (though God tells us that as soon as one dies they either go to heaven or hell): they then told people that they can perform certain deeds to get people out of purgatory, which took the form of "indulgences", which are money or services rendered---you can see how someone can exploit that. They also created the concept of one's sins being forgiven through the act of paying indulgences. They also invented the concept of the pope, though the Bible commands us not to call any man "father" or "master", which is a prohibition to do exactly what the pope does. They also added to the concept of the communion, also known as the "eucharist" (that event Christians participate in where they eat bread and grape juice to commemorate Jesus's sacrifice), the notion that the bread and wine literally becomes the actual body and blood of Christ, which is impossible and bizarre. Some time later, they also removed the second commandment from the ten commandments. And on and on and on. Because the Bible actually contradicts Catholicism, much of the Catholic inquisition actually involved persecuting Christians. I just found out about that this year. Catholicism is a false religion that is a modification of Christianity. I'm still looking into exactly when it began to change so dramatically. Right now it seems that things started to go downhill around the 5th century, the 400s AD (not CE, as these scholars seem to have adopted), but it may have happened sooner.
depends which christianity there are tons of them and most hate each other
I heard a man singing this on the sidewalk in downtown Richmond, Virginia yesterday. He was wearing a yellow dress and muddy boots.
The guy playing Joseph is the best I've ever seen. Narrator is great too, and Pharoah is Elvis reincarnated. The actors playing the brothers look bored though. Shame there is no Those Canaan Days or Benjamin Calypso, but still a fun production.
Gran película, me encantó mucho❤❤❤
The singer in the opening sequence has perfect diction, every word and phrase so clearly articulated. 5 stars.
Is Jonathan Scott Taylor who played Damien in omen 2 in this version?!
Yes. 👍
No one sings this song as well as Michael. He is the greatest! ❣️❣️❣️
playing a character like sweeney has got to be so much fun. an excuse to just go completely off the rails crazy. almost makes me want to go join a theater group.
That's one of the reasons why I'd love to play him!
Does anyone have a backup of this somewhere? In case UA-cam takes it down
Wow Holliday almost walked away from dream girls forever! Michael realized dreamgirls wouldn’t exist without her and the people sure did end up loving her! She really embodies the role of Effie like no other!
This is Betsy Joslyn (replacement Johanna and same as on the taped version from the 1982) and she sounds GORGEOUS here and way more in tune and less manic, but the characterization is still as Wonderful and cooky. Her Green finch here hasnt been bested except in the more toned down version by Lisa Vroman. I hope someone sees this comment and agrees. Betsy is a beautiful singer..
